Nevada licenses and registers applied behavior analysis at three levels under NRS chapter 641D: licensed behavior analyst, licensed assistant behavior analyst, and registered behavior technician.
Current BACB certification is written into every credential, and, per the board, the two licences add a Nevada jurisprudence exam.
Practice and the three titles are both restricted; unlicensed or unregistered work is a gross misdemeanor unless an exemption applies.
All Nevada ABA licences and registrations expire on December 31, 2026.

Three credentials under NRS chapter 641D: the licensed behavior analyst and licensed assistant behavior analyst licences, plus the registered behavior technician registration.
The Board of Applied Behavior Analysis, created by NRS 641D.200: five voting members appointed by the Governor โ three licensed behavior analysts, one licensed behavior analyst or assistant behavior analyst, and one public member.
Yes, in the definitions themselves: a behavior analyst holds current BCBA or BCBA-D certification and the Nevada licence (641D.030), and the board states BACB credentials are required for final approval.
Licensed assistant behavior analyst: current BCaBA certification plus the Nevada licence (641D.020), and no practice except under a qualified supervising licensee (641D.610).
State registration required: an RBT must hold BACB RBT certification, register with the board and work under authorized supervision (641D.100); unregistered practice is a gross misdemeanor (641D.910).
Both.
NRS 641D.900 bars practising applied behavior analysis, or representing oneself as a behavior analyst, assistant behavior analyst or registered behavior technician, without the matching credential; 641D.910 makes violations a gross misdemeanor.
NRS chapter 641D, added 2017 (Stats.
2017 p. 4220), amended 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025; NAC chapter 641D adopted November 2024, awaiting codification (LCB File No. R005-24).
A state registration, not a licence: the applicant proves current RBT registration with the BACB, names a supervisor authorized under NRS 641D.610(2), and pays the $70 registration fee; the board may not require any additional education or training for registration (NRS 641D.100; 641D.310(3)).
A licence for a current BCaBA that carries no independent practice: an assistant behavior analyst may not engage in or supervise the practice of applied behavior analysis except under a licensed behavior analyst or a licensed psychologist who completed the BACB supervisor requirements (NRS 641D.020; 641D.610(1)).
The licence to practise applied behavior analysis in Nevada, defined as a person who holds current BCBA or BCBA-D certification and is licensed under the chapter (NRS 641D.030); the board describes LBAs as independent practitioners who may supervise LaBAs and RBTs.
Nevada issues two licences and one registration through its own Board of Applied Behavior Analysis: the licensed behavior analyst (current BCBA or BCBA-D), the licensed assistant behavior analyst (current BCaBA) and the registered behavior technician.
Certification is the route, not the credential โ each definition pairs BACB certification with a Nevada licence or registration.
Section 641D.900 restricts two things at once: practising applied behavior analysis without a licence or registration, and representing oneself as a behavior analyst, assistant behavior analyst or registered behavior technician without the matching credential.
A violation is a gross misdemeanor under 641D.910 โ for the work and for the words.
For how BACB certification and a state licence fit together, see BACB certification vs. state behavior analyst licensure.
โA person shall not represent himself or herself as a behavior analyst, assistant behavior analyst or registered behavior technician within the meaning of this chapter or engage in the practice of applied behavior analysis unless he or she is licensed or registered as required by the provisions of this chapter.โ
Nevada writes no degree, coursework or fieldwork rule of its own into the chapter: the BACB standard is embedded in the definitions, and the licensure application requires evidence of current certification plus good moral character (641D.310).
Every application โ licence or registration โ also requires fingerprints, and the application is not complete until the Board receives them (641D.300).
Within 120 days of receiving an application and its evidence, the Board must evaluate it and issue a written statement of its determination; if the determination is negative, the statement must explain why in detail (641D.310(4), (5)).
The coursework, supervised fieldwork and BACB exam behind the certification are national requirements covered in the BCBA guides, not Nevada ones.
The BACBโs own degree, coursework, fieldwork and exam requirements are covered in how to become a BCBA.
โBehavior analyst means a person who holds current certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst or Board Certified Behavior Analyst - Doctoral issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc., or any successor in interest to that organization, and is licensed as a behavior analyst pursuant to this chapter.โ
The exam requirement comes from the board, not the saved statute: the board states that NRS 641D requires it to administer a state examination for both licences, and it has elected an exam of its own addressing the practice of applied behavior analysis, including federal and state laws, ethical principles and codes of professional conduct relevant to Nevada.
The requirement itself does not appear in the saved statute text and likely sits in the NAC 641D regulations, which were not read.
All licensure candidates take the same exam.
Eligibility requires current BCBA or BCaBA certification, the format is 40 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes delivered online through ClassMarker, and there is no penalty for guessing.
RBTs take no state exam: per the board, the examination requirement attaches to the two licences, not to registration.
โIn order to qualify to sit for the state exam, an applicant must hold current certification by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc.ยฎ, or any successor in interest to that organization, as either a Board Certified Behavior Analystยฎ or a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analystยฎ.โ
A licensed assistant behavior analyst may not engage in or supervise the practice of applied behavior analysis except under a licensed behavior analyst, or a licensed psychologist certified as a BCBA or BCBA-D, where the supervisor has completed the BACB supervisor requirements (641D.610(1)).
A registered behavior technician may practise only under that psychologist, such a licensed behavior analyst, or an assistant behavior analyst who completed the BACB supervisor requirements (641D.610(2)), and any supervisor under the section must comply with the BACB's supervision requirements (641D.610(3)).
For a new technician this is the practical gate: the registration application must show the authorized supervisor, so pick an employer whose supervisor qualifies before you file.
โRegistered behavior technician means a person who: 1. Is certified as a registered behavior technician by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc., or its successor organization; 2. Is registered as such pursuant to this chapter; and 3. Engages in applied behavior analysis services under supervision as required by NRS 641D.610.โ
The chapter defines the practice of applied behavior analysis as designing, implementing and evaluating instructional and environmental modifications to produce socially significant improvement in human behavior.
Section 641D.110 lists eleven exemptions (physicians, dentists, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, clinical professional counselors, social workers, occupational therapists, alcohol and drug and problem gambling counselors, clergy, a family member, guardian or caregiver acting as directed by a behavior analyst or assistant behavior analyst, and a school district or charter school employee working within their position's duties), every one of them conditional: each holds only while the person commits no act described in 641D.910 and uses none of the three titles.
Section 641D.120 exempts animal behavior work, services to organizations, teaching, academic services and research; people there may call themselves behavior analysts but must not imply they are licensed or registered.
Students, interns, trainees and fellows matriculated at an accredited college or university may practise under a licensed behavior analyst's direct supervision as part of an ABA program, internship or fellowship, identifying themselves as such and never under the three titles (641D.130).
โThe term does not include diagnosis, psychological testing, psychotherapy, cognitive therapy, psychoanalysis or counseling.โ
An applicant who holds a corresponding valid and unrestricted behavior analyst licence in the District of Columbia or any state or territory can seek an expedited licence by endorsement.
The application adds fingerprints, an affidavit and a fee, and the applicant must show they are not under discipline or investigation by any corresponding regulator or the BACB and have not been held civilly or criminally liable for malpractice.
The Board must request missing information within 30 business days, and a parallel section covers active-duty service members, veterans and their spouses, with a possible provisional licence while the application is pending (641D.350).
The endorsement sections speak of behavior analysts; they say nothing about an endorsement route for assistant behavior analysts.
โUnless the Board denies the application for good cause, the Board shall approve the application and issue a license by endorsement as a behavior analyst to the applicant not later than: (a) Forty-five days after receiving the application; or (b) Ten days after the Board receives a report on the applicants background based on the submission of the applicants fingerprints, whichever occurs later.โ
Every licence and registration renews on the same clock: apply, pay the biennial fee, submit evidence of any required continuing education, and show that BACB certification or registration remains valid and in good standing, all on or before the first day of January of each odd-numbered year.
Registered behavior technicians have one extra step: at their third renewal and every third renewal after that, they must submit to a criminal-history investigation (641D.360(2)).
The board's posted notice states that all Nevada ABA licences and registrations expire 12-31-2026.
Licensee-level continuing education is set by board regulation consistent with nationally recognized standards, and must include at least 6 hours of instruction relating to cultural competency and diversity, equity and inclusion for holders of a behavior analyst licence; the board may not adopt regulations requiring any continuing education for RBTs.
A renewal fee left unpaid within 60 days after it is due suspends the credential automatically, with reinstatement possible within two years.
โTo renew a license as a behavior analyst or assistant behavior analyst or registration as a registered behavior technician, each person must, on or before the first day of January of each odd-numbered year:โ
The chapter was added in 2017 (Stats.
2017 p. 4220) and amended in 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025.
The saved statute shows what that means at the section level: 641D.110, the exemption list, carries 2023 and 2025 amendments; 641D.360, the renewal section, carries 2023 and 2025 amendments; and 641D.380, the fee schedule, was amended in 2023 (2077).
What those amendments changed is not stated in the sources read.
Administratively, NAC chapter 641D was adopted by the board and approved by the State in November 2024 and is awaiting codification (LCB File No. R005-24); the board notes pages 38-66 of that file contain the concentration of the new regulations.
If you are relying on a specific subsection, check the current statute and the adopted regulations before you file.
โNAC 641D was adopted by the NV ABA Board and approved by the State in November 2024. The regulations are awaiting codification by the Legislative Counsel Bureau.โ
The board's licensing page describes a paper process: new applicants submit paper applications while the online system is in transition, and certification verification runs through the board by email.
Fees on that page: the LBA/LaBA application fee of $100 is due at the time the application is initiated, the state examination fee is $150, and the RBT registration fee is $70 and non-refundable.
The statute separately caps fees โ $450 for initial issuance, $550 for an LBA biennial renewal, $425 for an LaBA biennial renewal and $100 for an RBT biennial renewal (641D.380).
Fingerprints go through LiveScan at $39 plus a vendor fee, with results in approximately 10-14 days and the FBI fee rising to $40 effective October 1, 2026; results that arrive before an application has been started are destroyed under DPS requirements and must be redone.
This page summarizes the Nevada statute, rules, board pages and other documents cited above, as read for this state-by-state behavior analyst licensure series, current as of September 2026.
It does not list application forms, fees beyond those cited above, or processing times, and it is not a substitute for the instructions the Board of Applied Behavior Analysis (NV ABA Board) publishes.
Hour totals, exams and supervision rules change by statute and by board rule; for how BACB certification and a state licence fit together, see BACB certification vs. state behavior analyst licensure.
Confirm every requirement with the Board of Applied Behavior Analysis (NV ABA Board) before you count hours, register for an exam or apply โ and before you take one of the board certified behavior analyst jobs in Nevada that asks for it.
No. The board states BACB credentials are required for final approval and that anyone practicing ABA in Nevada must complete the state process prior to providing services.
The route: apply to the Board of Applied Behavior Analysis with evidence of current BCBA or BCBA-D certification and good moral character, submit fingerprints, pay the $100 application fee, and pass the board's Nevada jurisprudence exam.
If you hold a corresponding licence in the District of Columbia or another state or territory, the expedited endorsement under NRS 641D.340 can shorten the wait.
Practising without the licence, unless exempt, is a gross misdemeanor.
Yes โ state registration.
NRS 641D.100 requires a registered behavior technician to be BACB-certified, registered under the chapter, and working under supervision as required by 641D.610.
The registration application proves the BACB registration and names a supervisor authorized under 641D.610(2); the board may not require any additional education or training, and the fee is $70.
Registration renews on the odd-year cycle, with a criminal-history investigation required at the third renewal and every third renewal after that, and the board may not adopt continuing-education regulations for RBTs.
Practising as a registered behavior technician without the registration is a gross misdemeanor under 641D.910.
Under NRS 641D.610, an assistant behavior analyst may engage in or supervise the practice of applied behavior analysis only under a licensed behavior analyst, or a licensed psychologist certified as a BCBA or BCBA-D, who has completed the BACB supervisor requirements.
A registered behavior technician may work under either of those, or under an assistant behavior analyst who completed the BACB supervisor requirements.
Whoever supervises must comply with the BACB's supervision requirements, so the supervisor's own BACB standing is part of the state rule, not just an employer preference.
A state exam for both licences: the board states that NRS 641D requires it to administer the exam; the requirement is not in the saved statute text and likely sits in the NAC 641D regulations, which were not read.
The board describes the exam as addressing the practice of applied behavior analysis, including federal and state laws, ethical principles and codes of professional conduct relevant to Nevada, and all licensure candidates take the same exam.
The format is 40 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, with no penalty for guessing.
Candidates must hold current BCBA or BCaBA certification to sit for it; RBTs take no state exam.
On the statute's clock, each licence and registration renews on or before the first day of January of each odd-numbered year, with the biennial fee and evidence that BACB certification or registration remains valid and in good standing.
The board's posted notice adds that all Nevada ABA licences and registrations expire 12-31-2026.
Holders of a behavior analyst licence must complete at least 6 hours of cultural competency and diversity, equity and inclusion instruction within board-required continuing education, and a renewal fee left unpaid for 60 days suspends the credential automatically.
