Types of Programs Listed

905 listed
Counseling
CACREP-accredited master's programs in clinical mental health, school, addiction and rehabilitation counseling, plus the doctoral programs that train counselor educators. Most LPC and LMHC boards are built around this degree.Mental health counselor career guide

Marriage, couple & family
CACREP's marriage, couple and family counseling specialty, which trains clinicians to treat relationships and family systems rather than one client at a time. COAMFTE-accredited MFT programs will be added here next.Marriage and family therapist career guide

Social work
CSWE-accredited BSW, MSW and practice-doctorate programs, including those still in candidacy. The MSW is the degree behind every clinical social work license, and a BSW can shorten it through advanced standing.Clinical social worker career guide
432 listed
Psychology (doctoral)
APA-accredited Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs in clinical, counseling and school psychology, plus the handful of accredited master's programs. A doctorate from one of these is the usual route to a psychologist license.Clinical psychologist career guide

Some behavioral health credentials aren't earned through these degrees, so they have their own pages instead of cards here: registered behavior technician career guide.

School Directory FAQ

Which accreditation matters for a counseling, social work or psychology degree?

Each license has its own accreditor.

Counselor boards look to CACREP, social work boards to CSWE, and psychology boards to the APA Commission on Accreditation.

This directory lists schools with at least one program accredited by one of those three bodies, and each program on a card names its accreditor and status.

For how the three compare, and where COAMFTE fits for marriage and family therapy, see our guide to CSWE, CACREP and COAMFTE accreditation.

What do statuses like “Candidacy” or “Accredited, on contingency” mean?

They are the accreditors' own labels, shown exactly as published.

CSWE's candidacy is the multi-year path a new social work program follows before full accreditation.

APA's “on contingency” goes to a new doctoral program that meets the standards but hasn't yet produced outcome data, and “inactive” means the program isn't admitting students that year.

Anything other than a plain “Accredited” is shown in amber so you can ask the school about it before you apply.

Why are some social work programs listed as online?

CSWE records an online delivery option for many programs, and some programs now run only online.

Campus programs with an online option carry an Online badge.

Programs CSWE lists with no current campus appear in an “Online programs based in” section on their home state's page.

State boards license you where you practice, not where your school is, so check that state's rules before choosing an online program.

Why isn't a school I know listed here?

The directory only includes programs in CACREP's and CSWE's directories as of September 27, 2026, and APA's official 2025 list (decisions through October 18, 2025).

Programs that aren't accredited, CSWE programs in pre-candidacy and programs accredited after those dates won't show up.

MFT programs accredited by COAMFTE, rather than CACREP, aren't listed yet.

Each accreditor's live directory is always the most current record.

How can a school correct its listing?

Program names, statuses and dates come straight from the accreditors, so a change on their side reaches this page at our next update.

For anything else, or if a listing looks wrong, email [email protected] and we'll look into it.

About This Directory

Every school here runs at least one program accredited for a behavioral health license: a CACREP counseling program, a CSWE social work program or an APA-accredited psychology program. That adds up to 1,228 schools and 2,604 programs across 54 states and territories.

Each school gets one card per campus city. A university with an MSW, a clinical mental health counseling master's and a Psy.D. on the same campus shows up once, with all three programs and each one's accreditation status on the card. Pick a state to browse its schools city by city.

Program details come from CACREP's directory and CSWE's program directory (both as of September 27, 2026) and APA's list of accredited programs (decisions through October 18, 2025). Institution websites come from the U.S. Department of Education's IPEDS directory. Statuses change, so confirm a program's accreditation with its accreditor, and admission details with the school, before you apply.
